INSECT INFO

The Tityus stigmurus, also known as the Brazilian yellow scorpion, is a species of scorpion found in Brazil. Keeping scorpions as pets can be a fascinating hobby, but it requires careful attention to safety and animals needs.
Housing:
-
Enclosure:
- Use a terrarium with dimensions of at least 5 gallons for a single adult scorpion (Scorplings can be kept in smaller enclosures)
- Ensure the enclosure has a secure, escape-proof lid with ventilation holes.
- Provide enough hiding spots like small caves or bark for the scorpion to feel secure.
-
Substrate:
- Use a substrate like coco coir or a mixture of peat moss and vermiculite to maintain humidity.
- Create a layer at least 2-3 inches deep to allow for burrowing.
-
Temperature and Lighting:
- Maintain a temperature gradient in the enclosure, ranging from 75°F (24°C) on the cooler side to 85°F (29°C) on the warmer side.
- Use an under-tank heating pad on one side of the enclosure to achieve this temperature gradient.
- Scorpions are nocturnal, so provide a low-level light source during the day and darkness at night.
Humidity:
-
Misting:
- Spray one side of the enclosure with water regularly to create a humidity gradient.
- Keep humidity levels between 60-70%, mimicking the scorpion's natural habitat.
-
Water Source:
- Provide a shallow water dish with clean, dechlorinated water.
- Ensure the water dish is shallow enough to prevent drowning.
Feeding:
-
Diet:
- Feed Tityus stigmurus a diet of appropriately sized live insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms.
- Offer food items that are smaller than the width of the scorpion's pedipalps.
-
Feeding Schedule:
- Adults can be fed every 7-10 days, while juveniles may require more frequent feeding (3-4 times a week).
- Remove uneaten prey after 24 hours to prevent injury to the scorpion.
I do not recommend Handling this species!
